Vintage Wild Totem 4’3 x 8’9 circa 1960-1970

A striking hand-knotted vintage tribal rug with an unusually bold, almost architectural composition. Overscale hooked geometric forms stretch across a saturated raspberry-red field, centered by a stepped diamond motif and framed by narrow floral and geometric borders.

The palette is fantastic: raspberry red, apricot, burnt orange, dark brown-black, deep teal, cream, pale blue and touches of mustard. The large-scale pattern gives this one a noticeably more modern presence than many traditional village rugs while retaining the irregularity and character of hand weaving.
