A striking vintage Persian Hamadan runner with an unusually soft pile and a beautiful natural lanolin sheen that catches the light as it moves across the surface.
Hand-knotted in Northwest Iran, this corridor runner features a warm rosé red field filled with repeating boteh-style motifs and a sequence of elongated diamond medallions running the full length of the rug. The intricate patterning creates a rich textile-like texture that becomes especially visible when light moves across the wool.
One of the most remarkable qualities of this piece is the natural glow of the wool pile. Decades of age have allowed the lanolin in the wool to rise to the surface, giving the rug a soft reflective quality that shifts beautifully depending on the viewing angle.
The pile itself is exceptionally soft and velvety underfoot, a hallmark of well-aged village weaving. Subtle abrash and gentle wear across the field add depth and character while preserving the rug’s structure and durability.
Framed by ivory tribal borders and woven with a long elegant proportion, this runner works beautifully in hallways, kitchens, entry corridors, or layered interiors where warmth and vintage character are desired.
