A striking vintage Persian runner, hand-knotted in northwest Iran and dating approximately to the mid-20th century.
Three monumental geometric medallions run the length of a deep indigo field, each composed of bold hooked forms in muted burgundy, dusty rose, camel and warm ivory. Smaller geometric devices punctuate the field, while multiple intricately patterned borders frame the composition in raspberry, ivory, faded salmon and dark brown.
The oversized scale of the motifs gives this piece an unusually graphic presence, balanced by softened color and the irregularities characteristic of village weaving.
