A striking vintage Persian gallery rug, hand-knotted in northwest Iran and dating approximately to the mid-20th century.

Four monumental hooked medallions run the length of a deep indigo field, each filled with smaller geometric devices and surrounded by an extraordinary assortment of stylized animals, birds, plants, rosettes and tribal motifs. The bold central design is framed by multiple borders in faded terracotta, warm ivory, brick red and muted blue.

Its large-scale geometry and freely drawn secondary motifs reflect the expressive character of Kurdish village weaving, where repeated forms are often accompanied by small individual variations and figurative details.

The palette has softened beautifully with age, leaving deep indigo alongside faded terracotta, camel, ivory, dusty blue and touches of aqua.
