A beautifully worn vintage Persian village rug, most likely woven in the greater Hamadan region of western Iran. Its design centers on a highly stylized tree of life, rising through a dense arrangement of angular blossoms, leaves, flowering branches, and architectural floral forms. The drawing is bold and slightly irregular, giving the rug the individuality and movement associated with handwoven village pieces.
The palette is especially unusual: a muted dusty-rose field layered with taupe, mushroom brown, charcoal, faded plum, soft olive, slate blue, and warm ivory. Deeper blue-gray corner spandrels anchor the composition, while a narrow floral border keeps the focus on the richly patterned field.
Hand-knotted in wool over a cotton foundation, the rug has a low, time-softened pile with visible wear throughout. Areas of reduced pile allow the underlying knot structure to show, contributing to its beautifully aged, almost tapestry-like surface. The ends and selvages show age-appropriate wear and irregularity, all consistent with its vintage character.
Its balanced size works well beside a bed, beneath a small table, in an entry, reading area, or layered into a larger room.
