An unusual vintage Persian pictorial rug, hand-knotted in southwest Iran and attributed to the Qashqai/Shiraz weaving region.
Two chestnut horses fill a soft silver-gray field, accompanied by four stylized birds rendered in ivory and charcoal. A dark geometric border surrounds the scene with repeating floral and cross-like motifs in rust, brown, ivory, and gray.
The intentionally figurative composition gives this piece the character of traditional folk weaving, while its restrained palette makes the imagery feel surprisingly modern and easy to place.
