Woven circa 1900–1920
This antique Eastern Anatolian village rug, measuring 3’8” x 6’1”, was handwoven in the early 20th century (circa 1900–1920). Its design reflects Armenian and Caucasus-influenced Anatolian weaving traditions rather than Persian workshop production, visible in the vertical, symbolic layout and bold geometric forms.
The composition is structured along a central axis with stacked motifs, stylized branching elements, and protective iconography characteristic of village weaving from this region. A grounded palette of charcoal, mineral red, warm brown, and muted indigo has mellowed naturally over time, giving the rug depth and visual calm without losing clarity.
This piece shows honest age-related wear, consistent with more than a century of life, while retaining strong definition and balance throughout the field and borders. Its proportions make it well suited for an entryway, hallway, or layered interior where character and history matter.
